Quick Naan Bread
I love the flavors of Indian cuisine, and I also love naan bread. When my partner and I go to our favorite Indian restaurant, the naan bread is amazing. I find that when you buy it at the grocery store, it just doesn’t taste the same. That’s why I make this quick and easy naan bread recipe at home — it’s flavorful and comes together in about 30 minutes. This bread tastes better than the store-bought kind. You can serve naan with any saucy Indian meat dish, like butter chicken. You can even use it as a base for pizzas!I highly recommend eating it fresh. If you have leftovers, pop them in the oven for 2 to 3 minutes and enjoy them warm again! This recipe yields about 8 naan breads.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp instant yeast, very important to use instant yeast
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Oil for cooking
Toppings
- 4 tbsp melted butter
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro , you can also use parsley and add garlic if you like
Instructions
- Warm the water in the microwave for 35 seconds. Add the sugar and yeast. The yeast will form a small foam on top of the water.
- In a bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the water with the yeast.
- Knead the dough, and once the mixture becomes smooth, add the oil and continue kneading.
- Flour your work surface and rolling pin.
- Take a small portion of dough (about 3 tablespoons) and roll it out with the rolling pin until it’s about 3 mm thick. Repeat until all the dough is used.
- Tip: Don’t roll the dough too thin. If it’s too thin, it will become rubbery after cooking, and we want to avoid that.
- In a skillet, drizzle a bit of olive oil and brush it evenly using a silicone brush.
- Cook the naan on both sides until golden spots appear. During cooking, air bubbles will form.
- Cook each naan one at a time this way.
- After cooking, mix the melted butter with the chopped cilantro.
- Brush each naan with the butter mixture using a silicone brush.
- Serve hot!
