Mashed Potatoes
Mashed potatoes are a timeless comfort food side dish that pairs beautifully with so many hearty meals. The secret to perfect mashed potatoes is finding the right balance of cream, butter, and potatoes for the ultimate smooth and flavorful texture.
Ingredients
- 900 g yellow potatoes (Yukon Gold)
- ¼ cup milk
- ¼ cup heavy cream (35%)
- ½ cup butter
- ¾ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- ¼ tsp onion salt
- ¼ tsp garlic salt
- ¼ tsp paprika
Instructions
- Peel and cut the potatoes into chunks.
- Place the potatoes in a pot and cover with salted water.
- Bring to a boil, then simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, until the potatoes are very tender.
- Drain the potatoes, then return them to the hot pot for 1 minute to remove excess moisture.
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk, cream, and butter until the butter is melted (do not boil).
- Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or potato ricer.
- Add the warm milk, cream, and butter mixture, then mix gently.
- Add the salt, pepper, onion salt, garlic salt, and paprika.
- Mix lightly, taste, and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Serve hot.
