Wonton Soup

Wonton Soup
Wonton soup is a Chinese dumpling soup. Wontons are made by placing a filling inside a wonton wrapper. Then, the wontons are cooked in a flavored chicken broth. I use a mixture of ground beef and shrimp in my recipe because in our home we don’t eat pork. However, traditionally, wontons are made with ground pork and/or shrimp. There are many ways to fold wontons. Personally, I place a small amount of filling in the center of the square wonton wrapper, fold it in half, and then bring the corners together to seal. I’ve linked a video showing how I fold my wontons. You can find wonton wrappers at the grocery store in the frozen section near the Asian products. This recipe makes about thirty wontons.Wontons freeze very well, and you should freeze them before cooking them in the flavored chicken broth. You can double or triple the batch and make smaller portions in several ziplock bags to freeze. To cook frozen wontons, boil them in the broth for 7 minutes instead of 5.
