Are you craving homemade ice cream or sorbet but don’t own an ice cream maker or sorbet machine? Don’t worry! In this article, I’ll explain how to prepare a delicious frozen dessert at home without any specialized equipment. If you have a recipe that requires an ice cream machine, you can easily adapt it to make it without having to spend money on expensive tools!
Essentially, you’ll start by preparing the ice cream or sorbet recipe of your choice. As a general rule, you’ll need to cook a liquid mixture. Once it’s ready, let the mixture cool completely at room temperature or chill it in the fridge for 30 minutes. Next, pour the mixture into a shallow metal container and cover it with plastic wrap.
Freeze it for two hours. The edges should be frozen, but the center should still be soft. Then, transfer the mixture into a mixing bowl and blend it with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Repeat this process two more times (for a total of three times!).
After the third blending, transfer the mixture into a plastic container, cover with plastic wrap, and freeze for 7 to 8 hours. The plastic wrap helps prevent the formation of ice crystals on the surface of your ice cream or sorbet.
Making homemade sorbet or ice cream without specialized equipment is easier than you might think! It does take time, but even with a machine, you’d still need to wait a full day for the freezing bowl of your ice cream maker to chill properly in the freezer.
So don’t hold back—treat yourself to beautiful frozen desserts on sunny summer days!
